Seahawks aiming for Abe Lucas to return vs. Cowboys

A big update on the big right tackle for Seattle.

Starting right tackle Abe Lucas, who’s been out since the 2nd half of opening day against the Los Angeles Rams, is targeted for a return to the lineup next Thursday against the Dallas Cowboys. Pete Carroll didn’t firmly commit to Lucas playing, but this looks to be the plan/hope.

Lucas returned to practice two weeks ago, and while he was listed as questionable for both the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers games, he was ruled out by Carroll. In a walkthrough estimation, Lucas was considered a full participant, which is about as encouraging as it gets in terms of his return.

With a normal practice schedule coming up, we’ll have a better read on whether or not Lucas is ready to go. He was placed on injured reserve with an unspecified knee issue, and was activated with a return to practice designation last week. If he can play, then the Seahawks would have their full projected starting offensive line for the first time since opening day.

Should Lucas be unable to go, then presumably Stone Forsythe and Jason Peters, whom according to Carroll is “much better” following his shoulder stinger vs. San Francisco, will be the rotating right tackle tandem. That’s not particularly exciting news against that Cowboys front.

Keep in mind that whenever Lucas is back, Seattle will need to let someone go from the active roster to stay at the 53-man limit.
