With Russell Wilson out for the next several weeks and Geno Smith set to take the starting job, obviously Seattle needs another quarterback other than Jake Luton.

Even though Seattle brought in Blake Bortles for a workout, the team opted not to sign him and instead are bringing back a familiar face. The team announced on Wednesday that Danny Etling has been signed to the practice squad.

The former LSU quarterback has bounced around the league since he was signed by the New England Patriots as a UDFA in 2018. He even had a one-month stay on the practice squad of the Canadian Football League’s BC Lions before being waived in October.

As far as his time on the Seahawks, he was claimed off of waivers in 2020 by the team and signed to the practice squad after roster cuts. Etling signed a reserve/futures contract but was waived in August.

Oh yeah, and the Seahawks also confirmed that they have waived (not released) Tre Flowers but you already knew that. He’s not a vested veteran so he has to go through waivers instead of a straight release.
