The Tennessee Titans are one of several teams looking to fill vacancies, whether that be at general manager, head coach, and/or another coaching staff positions.

For the Titans, their biggest hole to fill outside of the general manager is the offensive coordinator, which came open after the team parted ways with Todd Downing on Monday.

While we’re still waiting on reports about who the Titans will interview for the opening (there are some early names being speculated about, but nothing more), Tennessee can’t just go talking to everyone.

There’s a certain timeline that must be followed with coaches whose teams are still in the playoffs. The NFL’s public relations guy, Brian McCarthy, shared the information.

So, if one of the Titans’ targets for their offensive coordinator job is a coach on a team in the playoffs, they’re going to have to wait to interview him.

One name that has widely been thrown around as a likely candidate is the team’s passing game coordinator, Tim Kelly, as he’s someone head coach Mike Vrabel is familiar with, and we all know Vrabes loves familiarity.

However, as our Shaun Calderon wrote, the Titans would be wise to try and find a coach from outside the organization instead of promoting from within.
