Titans’ Morgan Cox honored by Tennessee state legislature

Tennessee Titans long snapper Morgan Cox, who recently signed a one-year extension with the team, has been honored by the state legislature for his contributions and overall success in the state.

Cox was born in Collierville and joined the Titans in free agency in 2021. He also attended high school (Evangelical Christian) and college (University of Tennessee) in the state.

The 35-year-old former Baltimore Raven was honored with a resolution and was present at the Tennessee State Capitol building on Tuesday. The resolution reads as follows, per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online:

WHEREAS, it is fitting that this legislative body should honor a native son and University of Tennessee (UT) graduate who has excelled throughout a twelve-year career in the National Football League (NFL); and WHEREAS, a native of Collierville, Morgan Cox attended Evangelical Christian High School and was instrumental in the Eagles’ overall gridiron success, helping lead the team to a State Championship appearance as a senior and the semifinal game as a junior; and WHEREAS, as a senior, Morgan played center and long snapper for the Eagles and received All-State Honorable Mention recognition and the Commercial Appeal Best of Preps Award; and WHEREAS, after graduating from high school, Morgan Cox was a walk-on player for the UT Volunteers football team; and WHEREAS, Mr. Cox was the Vols’ long snapper for three seasons (2007-2009) and 38 games and earned an athletic scholarship from UT prior to the 2008 season; a gifted scholar, he earned Academic All-SEC honors from 2006-2009 and graduated with a degree in accounting; and WHEREAS, an undrafted free agent following the 2010 NFL draft, Morgan Cox signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 2010 and soon became a starter as the team’s long snapper; and WHEREAS, he played the first eleven years of his career with one team, a rare accomplishment in the NFL, and he ranks among the all-time leaders in Ravens history with 165 regular-season games and ten postseason contests played; and WHEREAS, he executed his assignment as Baltimore’s long snapper with distinction; Morgan Cox was named to the Pro Bowl four times (2015, 2016, 2019, and 2020), and last year, he became the first long snapper ever named to an All-Pro team; and WHEREAS, in 2011, Mr. Cox received the team’s Ed Block Courage Award after returning from a significant injury he suffered in 2010; and WHEREAS, a responsible citizen in addition to being an outstanding football player, Morgan Cox was an integral part of the Ravens’ social justice initiatives; and WHEREAS, the ultimate achievement for any NFL player is a Super Bowl ring; Morgan Cox earned that honor as a member of the 2012 Baltimore Ravens team that won Super Bowl XLVII and the NFL Championship; and WHEREAS, on March 19, 2021, Morgan Cox was signed as an unrestricted free agent by the Tennessee Titans; he executed his long-snapping duties to perfection during the 2021-2022 NFL regular season and played an important role for the Titans in the playoffs; and WHEREAS, Morgan Cox has earned his rightful place among the best long snappers of all-time as a four-time Pro Bowl honoree, the first long snapper to be named All-Pro, 2012 Super Bowl champion, and essential member of his home-state Tennessee Titans; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED TWELFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, that we honor and commend Morgan Cox, Tennessee native, UT graduate, and All-Pro long snapper for the Tennessee Titans, and extend to him our best wishes for much continued success in football and in life.

Cox has been one of the best long snappers in the NFL during his career. He has four Pro Bowl selections and one First-Team All-Pro nod. He provided much-needed stability at the long snapper spot for the Titans in 2021.
