Titans’ offensive line ranked among league’s worst after 3 games

In what is less surprising news than the sun rising in the morning, the Tennessee Titans’ offensive line is ranked among the NFL’s worst.

According to Pro Football Focus, Tennessee’s offensive line ranks 30th in the NFL after three games. Here are some of the stats PFF pulled.

Left tackle Andre Dillard has allowed pressure on 16.0% of dropbacks, the highest rate among offensive tackles.

The Titans’ offensive line surrendered six sacks against the Browns in Week 3. The unit’s 66.7 pass-blocking efficiency rating ranked dead last among all offensive lines in Week 3.

While the Titans have faced some very tough pass-rush duos over the first three games, it doesn’t come close to fully excusing what we’ve seen.

Dillard has given up six sacks, the most in the league. He has two more than the next closest player and three more than the next closest tackle.

Dillard is on pace to give up 34 sacks, 22 more than Dennis Daley did in 2022. Adding to that, the Titans’ offensive line as a whole is on pace to surrender 74 sacks, 25 more than last season.

PFF rightly notes that right tackle Chris Hubbard has been a bright spot for the unit, as he’s given up pressures on just 3.8 percent of dropbacks in 2023, tied for the lowest rate of his career.

However, even Hubbard struggled in Week 3, with the veteran lineman giving up three pressures and two sacks against the Cleveland Browns.

Here’s how Tennessee’s offensive linemen have fared in PFF pass-blocking grade thus far:

RG Daniel Brunskill: 76.4

LG Peter Skoronski: 74.2

RT Chris Hubbard: 71.7

C Aaron Brewer: 50.5

LT Andre Dillard: 36.1

LG Dillon Radunz: 30.1

LG Xavier Newman: 16.9

Tennessee’s offensive line woes also extend to run-blocking. The Titans’ rushing attack totaled just 26 yards and 1.7 yards per carry in Week 3, and running back Derrick Henry is averaging just 3.2 yards per tote this year.

As fans have begun clamoring for changes upfront, and more specifically at left tackle, head coach Mike Vrabel didn’t rule it out on Monday.

“We’ll continue to look and see what’s best and where guys go, but as it stands here right now, today, I don’t see something changing until we have some more time to visit on it tomorrow and see who is available, see who is healthy,” Vrabel said, per Jim Wyatt.

Whether Tennessee makes a change at left tackle or not, this group will once again have its hands full with another top pass-rusher in Cincinnati Bengals edge rusher Trey Hendrickson, who is capable of wrecking a game just like Myles Garrett did in Week 3.
