While the Tennessee Titans are currently set atop the depth chart at quarterback going into 2024, the situation behind starter Will Levis isn’t certain.

The only other signal-caller on the roster is 2022 third-round pick, Malik Willis, but the Liberty product is far from a roster lock after struggling over his first two years in the NFL.

Making his situation even more tenuous is the fact that the Titans plan on adding another quarterback to compete with Willis for the backup job, as general manager Ran Carthon revealed on Tuesday.

“We’re going to continue to look. We have Malik (Willis) in house and we’re not going to go into training camp with just two quarterbacks,” Carthon said, according to Sam Phalen of AtoZ Sports Nashville.

“We’re going to bring another quarterback in at some point, whether that’s through the draft, whether that’s through free agency to compete, and we expect all three of those guys to compete and elevate the room.

“We’re going to mix and match and see what’s the best fit.”

Having a competent backup who can weather the storm in the short term has become more important than ever in today’s NFL after the rash of injuries at the position around the league in recent years, something Titans head coach Brian Callahan experienced first hand during his days with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Willis has failed to show he can be that guy over his first two years in the NFL and is very much in danger of not being on this team in 2024, although Tennessee may still keep him as an emergency third quarterback if he loses the competition for the backup job.

While Carthon mentioned both the draft and free agency as the potential avenues the Titans could go to add another quarterback, I’d expect the latter to be where Tennessee ultimately goes for a solution.
