Let’s recap all of the moves from today

On Tuesday, the Minnesota Vikings made a number of roster moves, most of which involved the practice squad in some way. Let’s get you caught up on everything that happened.

The team has moved defensive lineman Sheldon Day from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. Day, who has been in the league since 2016 when the Jacksonville Jaguars drafted him in the fourth round, was on the Vikings’ practice squad last season and didn’t see any game action. He also went through Training Camp this year with the team and was brought back to the practice squad after the final cuts. Day has a chance to get some of the snaps that Dean Lowry was getting before he suffered a season-ending pectoral injury on Sunday night in Denver.

In order to make room on the active roster for Day, the Vikings waived wide receiver Trishton Jackson. Jackson, who had a big catch in the victory over Atlanta on a two-point conversion play, has been back-and-forth between the practice squad and the active roster several times this season. The Vikings will likely bring him back to the practice squad should he clear waivers.

The Vikings have also added defensive lineman Austin Bryant to the practice squad. Bryant was a fourth-round pick of the Detroit Lions in the 2019 NFL Draft and spent his first four seasons in the Motor City. He was then signed by the San Francisco 49ers and was cut during Training Camp and re-signed to their practice squad before the Niners released him about a week ago.

In order to clear a spot on the practice squad for Bryant, the Vikings waived wide receiver/special teamer Dan Chisena. Chisena was with the Vikings from 2020 to 2022 and served mostly as a gunner on punt returns. He then signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers but was let go by them during the preseason. He then came back to the Vikings about a month ago.

Lastly, the Vikings lost outside linebacker Benton Whitley as the New York Giants signed him off of the Vikings’ practice squad. Whitley, who the Vikings signed off of Kansas City’s practice squad in 2022 and brought back to the practice squad after Training Camp this year, was elevated to the active roster for the regular season opener and didn’t see any more action after that.

Whitley’s loss, coupled with the other moves detailed above, means that there’s an open spot on the practice squad at the present time. However, as mentioned earlier, that spot will probably be filled by Trishton Jackson tomorrow provided he clears waivers.

That’s a complete rundown of the moves that the Vikings made to start off Week 12. Not a lot of moves that will be super impactful but, at this time of the season, all of the moves are important.
