Big Phil is on his way back
The Washington Commanders announced they have opened the 21-day window for DT Phidarian Mathis. He will return to practice today and the team will then have three weeks to either activate him from injured reserve, or shut him down for the rest of the season. Mathis was placed on IR after the team trimmed the roster down to 53 players before the season started.
Mathis suffered a calf injury in the first preseason game vs the Cleveland Browns. He was also injured in the first game of his rookie season last year, tearing his meniscus, and going to injured reserve. He was a 2nd round pick, and now he could get his shot to play in his second season as early as this Sunday at home against the Philadelphia Eagles.
