What are the odds? Titans vs. Jaguars

What happens when you roll out an arena league level receiving core and have an inability to pass block? You get beat by the New York Jets, apparently. The Titans were embarrassed last week, getting beat by what was perhaps the worst team in the league.

Tennessee left points on the board in the first quarter, and the defense folded in the second half, allowing rookie quarterback Zach Wilson to connect on several deep balls to eventually secure the win.

The Titans are now left at 2-2, badly needing to get healthy. The Jaguars are up next, and after last week, they shouldn’t be taking any team lightly. Thankfully, Bud Dupree, Caleb Farley and A.J. Brown all returned to practice on Wednesday. Julio Jones remained sidelined, and we’ll have more official information as the week rolls on.

Jacksonville, meanwhile, is dealing with an entirely different set of issues. Urban Meyer has been a complete disaster to this point, and things got even worse after last week’s loss to the Bengals. Will the Jaguars be ready to roll on Sunday?

The oddsmakers think they will. The Titans are just four point favorites entering a road matchup against Jacksonville, likely influenced by all of the uncertainty surrounding the Tennessee injury report. The total has been set at 48.5.

The Jags have won just one of the last eight meetings against the Titans. Jacksonville has taken losses to Houston, Arizona, Cincinnati and Denver to this point, bringing them to an 0-4 start to 2021. Under Urban Meyer, the Jaguars have taken a step forward to this point in run defense, but the pass defense has been a major issue, ranking 30th in the league. Will the Titans have enough healthy bodies at receiver to take advantage?

We’re only through four games, but it’s already been a rollercoaster of a season for Mike Vrabel. How will his team respond after last week? That’s anyone’s guess at this point.

Looking ahead, this is a really big one for the Titans — one they need to get. The Bills and Chiefs are up next, followed by a trip to the Colts and the Rams after that. Tennessee badly needs to take care of business on Sunday.
