Notes: Jared Goff trying to build Cooper Kupp-like chemistry with Amon-Ra St. Brown

The Lions quarterback has taken the rookie receiver under his wings.

Detroit Lions rookie receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown joined CBS Sports for an interview this offseason to give updates on how his offseason is going with the team. He chatted about his coaches, the potential of facing off against this brother, Equanimeous, in Green Bay, and his goal for 2021.

But perhaps the most interesting part of the interview was St. Brown talking about his experiences with new Lions quarterback Jared Goff. He’s been impressed by his knowledge of the game, and thankful that Goff has taken him under his wing to help grow his game.

“I love Jared. He’s awesome, awesome dude. Great quarterback who understands the game,” St. Brown said. “He’s taught me some things about certain routes and things Cooper Kupp did with him back with the Rams that he loved.”

Though he and Kupp are much different players in terms of their style, creating that kind of chemistry that Kupp and Goff had in Los Angeles would be huge. The Rams receiver caught 288 balls over four seasons with Goff, including 94 catches for 1,161 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2019.

St. Brown plans to continue building that chemistry during this month off before training camp.

“He’s actually out here in Los Angeles now, so we’ll try to link up and catch some balls,” St. Brown said. “He’s a great quarterback who knows the game. I can’t wait to play with him.”
