Toney will start camp virtually

Jordan Ranaan of ESPN is reporting that the New York Giants have placed rookie WR Kadarius Toney on the Reserve/COVID-19 List.

This is, obviously, not how the Giants would have preferred to start their 2021 training camp.

Toney made news over the course of the off-season with the number of practices in which he wasn’t able to participate. Toney failed to complete practice at rookie mini-camp due to a minor injury and an equipment malfunction. He was absent from voluntary workouts while his rookie contract was unsigned. Toney eventually signed his contract but was excused from another practice and left practice early during the June mini-camp.

Ranaan reports that Toney will be able to participate in offensive meetings virtually. The Giants have to hope that the athletic but inexperienced rookie receiver will be able to get up to speed quickly, despite being unable to get on the field or be in the class room.

A quick search doesn’t show public information whether Toney has received a COVID-19 vaccine.

Speaking beyond the game of football, hopefully this is a breakthrough case and his symptoms are mild (if he has any at all), and not a more serious infection that could be dangerous or linger.
