Bills safety Jordan Poyer credits NY Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers for his ayahuasca journey

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is known for his plant-based and psychedelic approach to healing and life. As it turns out, that enthusiasm has spread to other members of the NFL community.

Most recently, Buffalo Bills safety Jordan Poyer praised the 39-year-old quarterback for his approach on life and opening up the idea to try ayahuasca, a psychedelic known to give users a spiritual “trip”.

Speaking on Robert Griffin III’s RG3 and The Ones podcast, Poyer mentioned that seeing Rodgers speak about the psychedelic on the Pat McAfee show opened his perspective on it.

“Aaron Rodgers opened me up to plant medicine with ayahuasca,” started the Bills defensive back. “I was very curious when he announced it, and when he started talking about it on the Pat McAfee Show, so I started researching it.”

Rodgers, who has appeared at a Colorado psychedelics conference to discuss the benefits of ayahuasca use, has credited the psychedelic for his multiple MVP performances in the NFL. He’s also stated that it’s allowed him to connect with his teammates on a more intimate level.

Poyer admitted that while a lot of people think Aaron Rodgers is “crazy,” he believes that the Jets quarterback was correct in his assessment of the psychedelic. In fact, Poyer himself went to a retreat with a family member to experience a spiritual trip, which included ayahuasca hallucination.

“I was interested [in trying ayahuasca],” began Poyer. “So I went last March with my wife’s cousin at this retreat center called Resonance in Costa Rica. We were out there for a week. We did three ceremonies with the medicine. When I tell you, I came out of this retreat as a new man … with an appreciation for life, with what I have. It’s really deep spiritual work.”

The Bills safety claims that the psychedelic allowed him to accept past trauma from his life in a healthy fashion. He also credits the hallucinogen for helping cure his depression after his injury-riddled 2022 season.

Like Rodgers – who has claimed he plans on continuing his use of the psychedelic – Poyer has also stated that he intends to experiment with the hallucinogen again. The 2021 All-Pro said he plans on going back to the retreat with more family members and teammates in the future.
