The New York Jets won’t play their first game at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas until 2022 at the earliest. But one of their own picked up a big, lucrative win in Sin City over the weekend.

Sophomore safety Ashtyn Davis united with streamer Alex “Destroy” Benabe to win a total prize pool of $50,000 at the Players League Invitational eSports event, resulting in a $25,000 share.

The event, featuring the game Call of Duty: Warzone, was held at the RedTail gaming bar and was produced by Subnation.

Davis, clad in a camouflaged Jets cap, posted photos and a video of his win on Instagram, claiming there were “insane vibes all weekend.” New York teammates La’Mical Perine and Milo Eifler were among those congratulating Davis, while former fellow defender Arthur Maulet (now of the Pittsburgh Steelers) asked for a share.

According to Benabe, this weekend’s triumph is his 10th professional victory. While Davis is less experienced, he’s had his success on the eSports circuit. He previously shared a runner-up finish in another Warzone tournament, the Mainland Gaming 2v2.

He earned $250.00 under the pseudonym “walkonAD” (per esportsearnings.com), referencing his status as a walk-on at Cal-Berkeley before building a strong career as a Golden Bear.

Those endeavors culminated in a nomination for the Burlsworth Trophy, annually awarded to the nation’s most outstanding walk-on. Previous winners include Baker Mayfield (twice) and Hunter Renfrow while Davis’ fellow finalists include Carl Nassib and Rodrigo Blankenship.

The Jets chose Davis in the third round (68th overall) of last year’s virtual draft. He earned 36 tackles over 10 games (six starts) in his debut season and is projected to compete against Lamarcus Joyner for the starting safety job next to Marcus Maye.
