NY Jets’ Breece Hall hits one milestone, narrowly misses another

Breece Hall is already stamping his name in the New York Jets’ record books

The New York Jets’ superstar running back has achieved a significant accolade.

During Sunday’s victory against the New England Patriots, Breece Hall surpassed 1,500 total yards from scrimmage, concluding his second season with 1,585 yards. He is the first Jets running back to eclipse the 1,500 mark since Thomas Jones in 2008. Hall joined Jones, Curtis Martin, and Freeman McNeil as the only Jets to hit that mark.

Hall racked up a career-high 178 rushing yards and a touchdown on a career-high 36 carries while also adding 17 receiving yards. His 190 yards from scrimmage was more than the Patriots’ total yardage, which was 119.

Additionally, Hall is the only running back this season with multiple games of over 175 rushing yards. He is also the first Jets running back to have over 35 carries and 170 yards in the same game.

On the season, Hall finished with 994 rushing yards, 591 receiving yards, and nine total touchdowns. It was an extremely impressive campaign considering the state of the Jets’ offense, especially at offensive line and quarterback.

After the game, quarterback Trevor Siemian spoke about Hall’s impressive performance.

“What can’t he do? The guy is unbelievable. Just when you think he’s bottled up or somebody’s going to bring him to the ground, he slips out of it. You see the highlight runs, but the runs where he turns a one-yarder into a three or four-yarder are just as important, or a loss of one into a gain of two,” said Siemian.

“The guy is special. Catches the ball like a wide receiver. I can talk forever about him. I don’t know if we have enough time to cover everything. The guy is pretty good at football.”

Hall also spoke after the game about his season performance and just missing out on 1,000 yards rushing.

“No, I really wasn’t upset that I didn’t reach 1,000 rushing yards, because everybody in the league that watches me knows that I have the potential to be probably the best back in the NFL,” said Hall.

It is encouraging to see Hall thrive in a Jets season filled with turmoil and issues. The running back carried the team’s offense for most of the season, whether on the ground or recently through the air.

The Iowa State product has established himself as a long-term centerpiece of the offense. Envisioning him in an Aaron Rodgers-led offense is an exciting prospect. With some additions to the team’s core of weapons and offensive line, there is a great chance for Hall to make good on his promise of putting up numbers worthy of being called the best in the league.
