The NY Jets injury report to begin Week 2 isn’t a pretty one

The New York Jets will be missing several starters over the next several weeks, per Robert Saleh and various reports surfacing Monday.

T Mekhi Becton: Dislocated kneecap (4-6 weeks)

Mekhi Becton was injured on the Jets’ first scoring play on Sunday afternoon and did not return.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport previously reported that Becton suffered a dislocated kneecap. George Fant took over for Becton as the lead blindside blocker while Morgan Moses took over for Fant on the right side.

Becton’s dislocated kneecap represents good news, as the fear that he could be lost for the season was very real initially.

S Lamarcus Joyner: Torn elbow tendon (out for the season)

Lamarcus Joyner was already holding down a primary safety role for Ashtyn Davis, who won’t return until Week 4 at the earliest after his placement on injured reserve.

Formerly of the Rams and Raiders franchises, Joyner had one tackle before leaving with an elbow issue. According to Cimini, Joyner suffered torn tendons that will require season-ending surgery.

Sheldrick Redwine and Adrian Colbert stepped in after he departed.

P Braden Mann: Knee sprain (4-6 weeks)

Braden Mann found himself injured on his second attempt of the day and made several trips in and out of the medical tent.

While kicker Matt Ammendola took over his duties, Mann could be seen pacing the sidelines adorned in a knee brace on his left leg.

LB Jamien Sherwood: Sprained ankle (2 weeks)

Rookie Jamien Sherwood was thrust to the top of the green depth chart after Jarrad Davis’ preseason injury was projected to keep him out for the pre-bye week slate.

Sherwood had one tackle before suffering a foot injury early in the contest.

LB Blake Cashman: Hamstring (2 weeks)

Blake Cashman has shown promise after joining the Jets as a fifth-round pick in 2019. Alas, he has been a staple on the New York injury reports and a hamstring issue appears to be the problem this time around.

Separate groin and hamstring issues limited him to four games last season.

Another rookie, Hamsah Nasirildeen was one of the rare Jets linebackers to escape yesterday’s game without incident, as C.J. Mosley endured late cramping (though he is not expected to miss any games).

The Jets return to action on Sunday afternoon at home when they welcome the New England Patriots (1 p.m. ET, CBS).
