Mike Williams is working his way back from a September ACL tear

The newest New York Jets wide receiver is on track to be ready for the start of the 2024 season.

At his introductory press conference, Mike Williams said that he is “right on schedule” in his recovery from an ACL tear that he suffered in September. Williams said he is about four and a half months out from his surgery, which he underwent in late October.

“I’m about four and a half months out, right on schedule. My main focus is just coming in every day, putting in the work, and just continuing to grind. That’s my thing. Everything is looking good, so just keep the main thing the main thing, and that’s continuing to get better every day.”

The receiver said he would be ready for Week 1, and when asked about his training camp availability, he smiled and said, “We are going to see.”

Once recovered from his injury, Williams will give the Jets offense its much-needed jump and deep ball threat.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers, known for his passing prowess at all levels of the field, will be able to utilize Williams’s skill set to attack weak spots of a defense. Whether on back shoulder fades or nine routes, it gives the future Hall-of-Famer a weapon to make his job more manageable.

Additionally, Williams can open up better matchups for star wide receiver Garrett Wilson. At his press conference, Williams stated that Wilson reminds him of former teammate Keenan Allen due to “similar styles of play.” Just like Allen did next to Williams, Wilson will now have more opportunities to see single coverage. Defenses must be conscious of Williams’s big-play ability, allowing Wilson to eat up chunks of yardage in the middle of the field and make big plays.

Staying healthy is the most critical factor for Williams and the rest of the Jets’ offense. But with the receiver on track in his recovery, the Jets’ offense looks ready to fire on all cylinders.
