NY Jets’ Nathaniel Hackett called out by Broncos wide receiver

In an Instagram story posted on Wednesday, Courtland Sutton seemed to call out the New York Jets’ offensive coordinator

Courtland Sutton is not a fan of New York Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.

In an Instagram story posted on Wednesday, the Broncos wide receiver posted a “Russell Wilson apology form” that included various options for someone to “select.”

One of those options stated, “The media convinced me that Russ was the problem, not Hackett.”

It is the latest shot fired in a feud that seemingly ended after the Jets defeated the Broncos in October.

The situation started back in the summer after Broncos head coach Sean Payton said Hackett had “one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL” in 2022 with the Broncos. It soon escalated to the point where Robert Saleh and Aaron Rodgers called out Payton, setting up an intense matchup in the regular season.

Once the Jets defeated Denver in October, multiple Jets players, such as Breece Hall and Zach Wilson, had comments celebrating their offensive coordinator.

Since that game, the Jets offense has regressed and looks like one of the worst in the league.

They have eight total touchdowns on the season, breaking down to five passing touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns. The Jets have not scored a touchdown for two straight games, with Breece Hall accounting for the last one against the Giants in Week 9.

On the whole, the Jets are in the league’s bottom tier in almost every offensive metric. They are averaging fewer points than both the 2022 Mike LaFluer offense and the 2020 Adam Gase offense, as the 2023 team’s number sits at 14.1 points per game.

Hackett is not the only issue with the Jets’ offense. The quarterback play has not been great, the offensive line is a revolving door, and the skill position players outside of Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall have been lackluster.

Yet, a large amount of the blame falls at the feet of Hackett’s scheme and play-calling. With the Broncos looking much better on offense this season and the Jets struggling mightily, Sutton’s comments only reinforce that the Jets’ current offensive coordinator may not be cut out for his current position.
