 Three down, two to go.

As announced on Wednesday afternoon, the Carolina Panthers have agreed to terms on their deal with third-round pick DJ Johnson. The outside linebacker, who is now the third member of the team’s class to finalize his pact, was the 80th overall selection of the 2023 NFL draft.

Johnson, a Sacramento, Cali. native, was a four-star recruit out of nearby Luther Burbank High School. Amidst a bevy of offers from some of the nation’s very top programs, he chose to go to the University of Miami (Fla.) for his 2017 campaign.

After a quiet year as a Hurricane, Johnson transferred to the University of Oregon for his next four seasons. From 2019 to 2022, he totaled 64 tackles (15.5 for a loss) and 9.0 sacks and recorded 124 yards on 11 receptions as a tight end.

The raw 6-foot-4, 260-pounder may figure into Carolina’s pass-rushing rotation as an edge defender in their new 3-4 front.
