A big drop for a small jump. Was this the right trade for the right player?

Round one of the 2024 NFL Draft is officially in the books and the Carolina Panthers made a splash by trading up one whole spot to get into the end of the first round and select South Carolina wide receiver Xavier Legette.

The Panthers had their choice of receivers, with a handful of names remaining on the board who were projected to be gone by or around their original 33rd overall pick.

On the one hand, you have one of the leading receivers from the 2023 college football season in the hands of the coaches with a great track record of developing receivers.

On the other hand, a team full of holes traded up to grab a one-year wonder. Sure, they didn’t surrender any picks, but that 59 spot drop from the fifth to the sixth feels big.

How do you grade the trade up for Legette, Panthers fans?
