The Carolina Panthers filled right guard John Miller’s starting spot on Monday by penciling in the versatile Dennis Daley. Now, that Miller will be inactive for Sunday’s Week 1 contest, they needed to fill his actual active roster spot.

That spot, as announced by the team on Tuesday night, will be assigned to Sam Tecklenburg. Tecklenburg has now been called up from the practice squad and will provide some depth to the unit in their opener against the New York Jets.

Now in his second NFL go-round, the 6-foot-4, 310-pounder has already seen regular season action, having played in two games during the 2020 campaign. The Baylor University product, with ties to head coach Matt Rhule, was brought back to the practice squad last week after missing out on the initial 53-man cut.

As a result, Tecklenburg’s place on the practice squad will go to newly-signed cornerback John Brannon. Brannon, a local talent from South Mecklenburg High School and Western Carolina University, was waived by the Los Angeles Chargers on Aug. 31.
