Patriots reportedly acquire offensive lineman Yasir Durant from Kansas City for late-round pick in 2022

Less than 24 hours before cutting their roster down to 53, the New England Patriots continued to make additions, acquiring a former undrafted rookie free agent from the Kansas City Chiefs.

According to Herbie Teope of the Kansas City Star, the Patriots acquired offensive lineman Yasir Durant from the Chiefs in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft.

Durant, 23, is a second-year player from University of Missouri, where he started 33 of 34 games after transferring in from Arizona Western College. Durant was once projected as a third-round pick by ESPN’s Todd McShay, and despite slipping out of the draft altogether, he was able to make Kansas City’s 53-man roster out of training camp last summer.

He would play in 11 games during the regular season, making a single start in Week 17.

The 6-foot-6, 330-pound Durant played well throughout the preseason for Kansas City, but was buried behind a revamped offensive line that includes former Patriot Joe Thuney.

Given the late nature of the addition, it looks as though Durant will be a part of the Patriots’ initial 53-man roster. Having played both guard and tackle at the NFL level, he gives New England some positional flexibility and depth on the second unit.

The Patriots now stand at 78 players, and 25 moves will need to be made to get down to the 53-man limit that goes into effect at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
