Members of the Seattle Seahawks reported for training camp on Tuesday, with optimism among fans for the new offense under first year coordinator Shane Waldron high. Add in that the Hawks had used their top overall pick on D’Wayne Eskridge, an explosive burner at wide receiver to potentially team with Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf to form a dangerous trio. However, some of that optimism quickly evaporated when the team placed Eskridge on the Physically Unable to Perform list on Wednesday.

Pete Carroll remained optimistic and stated that Eskridge was just working through the toe injury that had kept him off the field during organized team activities in June.

That nagging toe injury decided on Saturday to do a little more nagging, and after practice Carroll provided the following update.

Obviously any tweak to any injury is not welcome, but that is especially true of a toe injury that Eskridge has now been nursing for at least six and a half weeks. Given the nature of toe injuries and combining that with Eskridge’s explosiveness and the strain that explosiveness puts on his big toe, at this point it is not out of the question he could miss the entirety of training camp and the preseason. Whether that proves to be the case or not only time will tell, but Seahawks fans are already familiar with foot issues keeping a speedy wide receiver off the field. It was just a year ago that free agent addition Phillip Dorsett failed to take a single snap, though at this point it’s obviously far too early to panic regarding Eskridge.

That said, however, the fact that there is “no real timeline” is not exactly the most reassuring thing to hear regarding the team’s top draft pick this year.
