Pick the top play from the Packers Week 8 victory over the Cardinals

A decimated Packers team staggered into Glendale and came out on top 24-21 behind a few unlikely heroes.

Davante Adams, Marquez Valdez-Scantling, Allen Lazard, Jaire Alexander – The Packers were down several of their biggest stars last Thursday night, leaving the team to assemble a ragtag group of skill players to take down the undefeated Cardinals. This Guardians of the Galaxy-esque bunch included Juwann Winfree, Josiah Deguara, and Rasul Douglas in just his third game of the season. Hardly the names you expect to outduel Deandre Hopkins, Kyler Murray, and the rest of Arizona’s star-studded roster. But major contributions from role players, along with the weekly, thrilling high points from Corey Bojorquez and De’Vondre Campbell, allowed the Packers to wrestle control of the NFC away from the desert into the frozen tundra. We’ll be taking a quick look at the top plays of the game and giving you the chance to vote on your favorite below.

Rondale Moore Muffs the Corey Bojorquez Punt

After a powerful run by Aaron Jones tied the game at 7-7, the Packers forced a 3-and-out, providing themselves an opportunity to seize control of the game and energize the crowd that must have been nearly 50% Packers fans. However, their drive stalled at midfield, forcing a Corey Bojorquez punt. But we all know by now that Bojo Bombs are no ordinary punts. He forced a Rondale Moore fair catch at the Cardinals 13-yard line which Moore failed to corral. After a performance straight out of Hollywood left Moore with his hands up and away from the ball, Ty Summers jumped on the ball at the Cardinals 3-yard line. After review, it was confirmed that Moore had touched the ball. The Packers were in business, although they would only end up with a field goal.

With the Packers headed into halftime up 10-7, there was a real sense that the team might pull off one of the weirder wins we’ve seen in the Matt LaFleur era. The Cardinals had possession to open the 2nd half and found themselves backed up to their 9-yard line on 3rd and 17 thanks to a timely holding call and a Dean Lowry sack. Kyler Murray dumped the ball off to James Conner on a screen, but the ball bounced off Conner’s hands and right into Henry Black’s. Packers defense AND special teams setting them up deep in the opponent’s territory? Yeah, this was a weird win.

After converting a clutch 4th and 3 at the Arizona 7-yard line, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers found themselves with 1st & Goal from the 2-yard line. Rodgers lofted a beauty to Randall Cobb in the corner of the end zone to go up 17-7. The Packers had finally taken control of a close game and were in the driver’s seat.

But of course, Murray and the Cardinals were not going to go down without a fight. Both teams traded touchdowns on the next three drives until the Packers took possession with 10:45 left in the 4th. Rodgers and co. led a 7-minute drive that ended in calamity. A pass interference call, a reversed touchdown, a delay of game, and a Rodgers scramble to the 1-inch line left the Packers without points and faced with stopping Kyler Murray from going 99 yards to win the game. Murray led Arizona down to the Green Bay 5-yard line with just 0:15 left on the game clock. However, he made the fatal mistake of throwing at Rasul Douglas, who we all knew would make the game-winning play, right? AJ Green had no idea where the ball was and Douglas made a fantastic play to come down with the interception. The Packers once again won in a dramatic fashion, giving us heart attacks during yet another thrilling 4th quarter.
