Most fans think the Giants will finish with 5 or 6 wins

The New York Giants have finally reached their bye week after a long (long) 12 weeks to start the 2023 season.

Everything has been a struggle for the Giants in 2023, and they’ve had to scrape and claw their way to the 4-8 record they’re carrying into their bye week. Now the team can catch its breath and start getting ready for the final five-game stretch of the season, starting with Monday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers.

SB Nation Reacts took this opportunity to ask Giants fans how many games they think their team will win after this week’s bye.

The overwhelming majority (68%) believe the team will pick up one or two more wins before the end of the season. That would have the Giants finishing with a record of 5-12 or 6-11 on the year.

Another 19% think the Giants could win three or four of their remaining five games, while 11% don’t think the Giants will win any more games.

To save you some math, 2% of respondents thing the Giants will sweep the final stretch of the season, win all five games, and finish 9-8.

The Giants’ best remaining chances for winning are against the New Orleans Saints (week 15), Los Angeles Rams (week 17), and Packers (week 14). All three teams are currently 5-6 on the season, but have gotten there in different ways.

The Giants’ kryptonite has been competent offense, as efficient offensive play frustrates Wink Martindale’s blitz schemes and the Giants’ own offense struggles to keep up. The Rams and Packers seem to be on a be on a rise and have fielded top-five offense (at least in terms of efficiency) over the last couple weeks.

The Saints, meanwhile, have struggled over the last three week. They dropped their last two games to the Atlanta Falcons and Minnesota Vikings on either side of their bye week. That game, however, will be at the Super Dome down in New Orleans. That’s always a difficult atmosphere, and could be particularly tough on a rookie like Tommy DeVito.

Wins against those teams are certainly possible, particularly if the Giants continue to get healthy and gel over their bye. However, they won’t be easy to come by, either.

Of course, nothing has been easy this year, so why start now?

Fans commenting on the original poll also pointed out the possibility that the Philadelphia Eagles could rest their starters for the Week 18 season finale, opening the door to for another win. We’re still a ways away from that decision, and it could depend on the outcome of this week’s Sunday Night Football game between Philly and the Dallas Cowboys. Philly won’t rest their starters if they’re still fighting for the number one seed.

Fan confidence

Barring something pretty much completely unexpected, the Giants won’t be considering their own playoff seeding in Week 18. However, Giants fans remain positive about the overall direction of the team heading into their bye week.

The Giants’ two-game winning streak over the Commanders and Patriots has buoyed fan confidence for the second week in a row. It isn’t quite up to the high of 74% following the Giants’ Week 2 comeback win over the Arizona Cardinals, but 71% of fans believe the team is heading in the right direction.
