That’s good news for the defense, and expect to see a lot of Barber

Old-fashioned good news, bad news from the Las Vegas Raiders’ injury report ahead of their Week Two matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Athletic’s Tashan Reed reported that Raiders head coach Jon Gruden said edge rusher Yannick Ngakoue will play with his hamstring injury, but Josh Jacobs’ toe and ankle injuries will hold him out of action.

Having Ngakoue is a big boost to Las Vegas’ defense, especially since the team feared he might be seriously injured on Tuesday. The veteran pass rusher had six pressures on just 22 pass rushes before exiting the game on Monday night, and his debut with the Raiders was something the organization hadn’t seen in quite some time, as PFF’s Austin Gayle pointed out.

The Steelers have question marks at offensive tackle so the free-agent signing could be in store for another big performance.

As for Jacobs, he’ll certainly be missed as a red zone option. That’s where his two scores against the Ravens came from, and I’d expect newly-signed Peyton Barber to take those carries against the Steelers.

Kenyan Drake should see more action, too, especially if the Raiders decide to attack the perimeter with their running game since they’ll likely be starting two backup guards. Also, I’d expect Gruden to get Drake more involved in the passing game this week. However, it sounds like the coach will give Barber the bulk of the carries:

Preseason superstar and undrafted free agent Trey Ragas would be another option for the Silver and Black. He was active on Monday and could be another weapon inside the 20 to spell Barber.

As of right now, that’s all the injury updates, but I will circle back once the team releases the final injury report for the week.

UPDATE 1:23 pm PST: Raiders release final injury report

Guard Richie Incognito has officially been ruled out with the same calf injury that kept him sidelined last week.

Additionally, linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski (concussion) is out, along with quarterback Marcus Mariota (quad) and safety Roderic Teamer (ankle).

Defensive end Carl Nassib is listed as questionable with pectoral and toe injuries, as is Darius Philon (knee) who also didn’t practice on Friday.

The Steelers released their injury report this afternoon, too. Defensive tackle Carlos Watkins is out with a knee injury, while cornerback Joe Haden (groin), linebacker Devin Bush (groin) and tight end Zach Gentry (ankle) are listed as questionable.
