The Raiders were 11th youngest in NFL last year

Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden often likes to say how young his team is. However, it appears, the Raiders are simply the league average when it comes to youth this season.

According to the Philly Voice, the Raiders are the 16th youngest team in the NFL based on all 32 rosters from Tuesday’s cutdown day. The average age of the Raiders’ roster on Tuesday — all roster average ages are tweaked after moves from the initial 53-man roster, but they all likely stay in the same range — is 25.7 years old.

The Raiders opened the 2020 season as the 11th youngest team. So, clearly it is not getting younger this year.

Here’s the deal: The NFL is a young man’s game for the most part. Many teams have young players and Las Vegas has young players at key position, including the secondary at wide receiver. But this study shows the Raiders aren’t overly young in the grand scheme of the NFL.

In other Raiders’ links:

  • Tight cap: According to Over The Cap, the Raiders’ are not in great salary-cap position.
  • Deablo time? The Athletic thinks rookie linebacker Divine Deablo may be ready to get into the mix.

  • Sweet digs: The plans for Raiders’ owner Mark Davis’ new house in the Las Vegas area is pretty elaborate.
  • Week 1 ref: Shawn Smith will be the referee for the Raiders-Ravens game on Sept. 13.
