The Los Angeles Rams’ played the Las Vegas Raiders in a preseason game at SoFi Stadium on Saturday Night. The game was the second at SoFi to have fans in attendance and reports say approximately 63,000 tickets were sold and NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano said there seemed to be at least 50,000 in attendance.

The game was close and competitive as the Rams led at halftime 10-7 but ultimately lost the match 17-16.

Here are three takeaways from the game:

Rookie Linebacker Chris Garrett shows potential

The game started with an excellent tackle for a loss by rookie Bobby Brown III but was then followed up with a sack, an assisted sack, and a key pressure by the player picked 252nd in this years draft Chris Garrett. Garrett showed a quick start and technique to work the edge and finishing ability while sparking the defense giving the Rams first half momentum.

Bryce Perkins keeps the game competitive

Rams quarterback Bryce Perkins threw for 208 yards on 26 completions, two touchdowns, and gained 41 yards rushing. He demonstrated the ability to work the progression from the pocket when needed and also the athleticism to escape and create on his own. He completed eight receptions to both WRs JJ Koski and Tutu Atwell. His two touchdowns were enough to keep the game close but in the end his under thrown deep passes and missed two point fade throw proved costly.

Running Backs have a better day

Both running backs Jake Funk and Xavier Jones produced more rushing yards than in the previous game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Funk rushed for a total of 56 yards and Jones 21. Funk showed some ability to move the ball through the middle while Jones made the most of his receiving opportunities. With these two competing for the back up roles to Darrell Henderson Jr, we’ll have to see if they can produce the same or better results in the next and last preseason game against the Denver Broncos before knowing how they might do going into the regular season.
