Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has now completed deep passes to all four of his primary targets in training camp 11 on 11 periods. QB1 has connected downfield to DeSean Jackson, Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp, and after Monday’s highlight toss, now also Van Jefferson.

During the 2019 and 2020 seasons, commentary had been made on the Rams need to improve the deep pass element of their attack. Among the reasons given were, QB arm talent, aggressiveness, to the lack of a deep threat WR. General manager Les Snead and Coach Sean McVay aimed to remedy these issues, first by drafting WR Van Jefferson in the second round of the 2020 draft, then bringing in quarterback Matthew Stafford and signing deep threat DeSean Jackson during the offseason.

The idea of pairing a known speedster like Jackson with one of the top route running duos in Woods and Kupp would at least result in the opening of the midfield area for the pair to continue their catch and run dominance. What was less known until training camp was how active the deep passes would actually be. Does Jackson still have the speed? Can Kupp and Woods take advantage downfield? Where would Jefferson fit in the mix?

So far it seems the questions may actually be on the opposing defenses? Which of the four targets do you prioritize in the deep zone? Because all four Rams receivers have put forth a demo of what’s to come should the ball the launched their way when it counts.
