Rams select Washington State edge rusher Brennan Jackson with 154th pick
The Los Angeles Rams made their first pick of day three in the fifth round on Saturday. With the 154th pick, the Rams selected Washington State edge rusher Brennan Jackson. The theme of the 2024 NFL Draft for the Rams has been rebuilding the defense. The pick of Jackson follows that same theme and adds some depth to the edge rusher rotation.

Jackson had 8.5 sacks last season for the Cougars and is from the Southern Calfornia area. He finished his collegiate career with 20 sacks, which includes 14.5 over the last two years. Per Dane Brugler in ‘The Beast’, a NFL scout said, “One of my favorite guys in my area to talk to. Ball and life.” He’s top-10 in school history in both career sacks and tackles for loss.
On the Rams
This feels like a bit of a culture pick for the Rams in the fifth round which isn’t a bad thing. An edge rusher may come as a little bit of a surprise after selecting three in the draft last season and also adding Jared Verse in the round this year. The team also brought back Michael Hoecht as he signed a restricted free agent tender.

It will be interesting to see where Jackson fits in the rotation with Jared Verse, Byron Young, Michael Hoecht, Nick Hampton, and Ochaun Mathis. Jackson has a high motor and plays with a lot of energy. With Hoecht on just a one-year deal, Jackson could be a replacement there and be a future depth piece.
