Two teams sharing a long history, the Los Angeles Rams and Cleveland Browns, square off today at 1:25 p.m. PST at SoFi Stadium just outside of L.A. in Inglewood Ca. The Rams are coming off two straight wins over the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks, while the Browns have split their last pair, losing to the Denver Broncos after knocking off the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Brownies have ridden on the backs of the defense to this season’s 7-4 record as injuries have decimated the offense. Starting quarterback Deshaun Watson is out for the season and was only active in six games. Nick Chubb, a perennial 1000 yard rusher, went out for the season in Week 2. And now, backup QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson is out for the L.A. game with a concussion.

Ageless Joe Flacco, 38, was signed off the street to helm Cleveland this week. Flacco has a Super Bowl win in his credits back in 2012 with the Baltimore Ravens, but his best years are well behind him as he’s settled into the veteran backup niche. The Browns are his fourth team in the last five seasons.

Even with the offense sputtering, the defense has held up and are particularly strong against the pass. The Brownies are aggressive with the blitz, using it 30% of the time and they have the NFL’s top pressure rate at 28.5%. It has led to 34 sacks, nine interceptions, and a minuscule 4.5 yards per play. While they haven’t forced a lot of turnovers (16), Cleveland leads the NFL with the least first downs (143) and scoring drives allowed (23.4%).

A win for the Rams would go a long way to putting them on the path to a playoff berth. Coupled with the Seattle Seahawks already falling to the Dallas Cowboys earlier this week and an expected loss by the Green Bay Packers to the Kansas City Chiefs, L.A. would get their hooks into the top seven seeds and would be in control of their own destiny.

Here’s how to find out if they can pull it off.
