Not halfway through a one-year contract, Jackson is no longer with the LA Rams

As expected from rumors that started on Friday, the Los Angeles Rams have waived wide receiver DeSean Jackson after failing to find a trade partner. The Rams part with Jackson after just seven games together and with LA realizing that they never really knew the real DeSean Jackson.

Jackson, 34, caught eight passes on 15 targets and sure enough caught a few long bombs, but he was not “stretching the field” or playing the role formerly occupied by Brandin Cooks, so Los Angeles is able to save considerable cap space while promoting Tutu Atwell to a bigger role in the offense. Though Sean McVay and Jackson had a great relationship that started with their time together in Washington, it is clear that Matthew Stafford prefers at least four other targets and Jackson’s low snap percentage should not be missed.

With a contract north of $4 million, including incentives, the Rams save a small but significant chunk of cap space that could help them continue to build a championship roster moving forward, or rolling it over to 2022.
