Los Angeles Rams News and Links for 5/3/24

The NFL Draft has come and gone, but players can still be added. In fact, undrafted players can turn out to be better than players that were drafted. The human component is real as is situation and availability. You just never know a player may stay up or have a chance to shine whether they were drafted or not.

Do any of these undrafted players listed below excite you? Please let us know what you think in the comments (or don’t) and thanks for checking out Turfshowtimes! Have a great day. Happy Friday!

Update, I later realized that we already covered the undrafted free agents so I changed the headline this morning. I apologize for this oversight and please forgive me! Again comment on whatever you’d like!

Rams agree to terms with 16 undrafted free agents (therams.com)

“THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Los Angeles Rams on Thursday agreed to terms with 16 undrafted free agents.

Those players are:

Ohio WR Sam Wiglusz

Washington DL Tuli Letuligasenoa

Central Missouri DL David Olajiga

Tennessee DB Jaylen McCollough

Cortland WR JJ Laap”

Rams announce dates of 2024 rookie minicamp (ramswire)

“The Rams added 10 rookies in the draft, as well as 16 after the draft concluded. They’ll all be battling to make the 53-man roster this season and they’ll get a chance to make a first impression during the two-day minicamp this month.

As a reminder, below are the Rams’ 10 draft picks from this year.

Round 1, No. 19: OLB Jared Verse, Florida State

Round 2, No. 39: DT Braden Fiske, Florida State

Round 3, No. 83: RB Blake Corum, Michigan”

Video Captured Eagles GM’s Hyped Reaction That Rams Didn’t Select Cooper DeJean (si.com)

“The Eagles planned to trade up to the eighth pick of the second round (No. 40) and hoped DeJean would fall to them. But Roseman’s heart dropped when he learned the Los Angeles Rams had traded up to No. 39. He thought for sure the Rams would take DeJean.

“Ah, that’s it,” Roseman said.

But the Rams didn’t pick DeJean. They selected Florida State defensive tackle Braden Fiske instead. Roseman erupted in celebration.

“Yes!” he exclaimed while giving a passionate fist-pump.

“I think that’s what makes the draft so interesting,” Roseman said on the full all-access video posted by the team’s YouTube account. “You don’t know how everyone else sees things. We know how we see things, and you get into your own head where you go, ‘Everybody’s gotta see it the same way.’ But it never works out that way.”

Ramsdom Fandom: Jaylen McCollough UDFA profile (By Ferragamo15 on May 2, 2024)

“Can either Kenny Logan or Jaylen McCollough be a draft steal for the Rams the way Curl was for Washington in 2020? McCollough was too lightly regarded as a prospect to make PFF’s Big Board but if he had been ranked, he would have had the 3rd highest 2023 season grade among all the safeties, behind only Tyler Nubin and Kitan Oladapo. McCollough’s grade was nearly 20 points higher than the grades for Kam Kinchens and Cole Bishop. One of the primary negatives with McCollough is that he ran a very slow 40-time, but the Rams drafted Kinchens in the 3rd round and he only had a 4.65 second 40-time. Could McCollough not only surprisingly win a roster spot but someday even beat out Kinchens on the depth chart?

Background

Name: Jaylen McCollough. Nicknamed “Tank”. 5th year bonus senior. Turns 24 years old in October of 2024.

School: Tennessee. Degree in Communication, Master’s student in agricultural leadership, education and communication.

Size: 6 feet tall, 202 pounds, 31 1/2’’ arms, 8 3/8’’ hands, 74 3/8’’ wingspan, 4.74 second (40 time), 1.62 second (10-yard split), 32’’ vertical jump, 9’7’’ broad jump, 4.58 second (short shuttle), 7.52 second (3-cone), 17 bench reps. A different source had his PD 40-time as 4.69 seconds.

4-star recruit from Georgia. Played RB and S in HS. Had an injury in 2017 and missed games. Projected as future Day 3 draft pick with Gerod Holliman as his comp.

Enrolled early in 2019. Had nagging injuries to upper and lower body in 2020.

Tennessee had a 4-2-5 scheme with a LEO hybrid edge defender (Byron Young played that position in 2022) and a STAR defensive back. McCollough appeared to be playing the SS position but in their defense the roles of the 2 safety spots appeared to be pretty similar. Vols were 23rd in scoring defense in 2023, he was 3rd on the team in tackles, tied for 1st in INTs and tied for 2nd in PDs.”
