The Baltimore Ravens acquired inside linebacker Roquan Smith from the Chicago Bears in exchange for a second-round pick, a fifth-round pick, and inside linebacker A.J. Klein at the 2022 trade deadline. The move has paid significant dividends for the team and should continue for years.

Baltimore signed Smith to a five-year, $100 million extension just months after acquiring him, and he’s continued to elevate the team’s defensive system and play. Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was asked about Smith, praising him immensely while saying he loves him.

“Roquan Smith has made a seat change on our defense. Roquan kind of just tied it all together. He made it all kind of fit and make sense. We were doing the same things on defense that we were doing [before] Roquan got here, and we were doing them pretty well. We were getting better as the [2022] season went along, but everybody saw it. When he got here, it changed. He made everybody better around him, and it’s only gotten better since. So yes, Roquan, [I] love him. I love him. [He’s] one of the best.”

Smith has been invaluable in his play but has become a massive leader for the Ravens. His passion and energy galvanized his teammates, and he will be expected to continue to play and lead at a high level.
