Ravens place two players on short-term injured reserve; sign tight end Eric Tomlinson

The IR boomerang is coming in really clutch for Baltimore this year.

After setting their first 53-man roster, the Baltimore Ravens placed two players on short-term injured reserve. Wide receivers Rashod Bateman and Miles Boykin will miss the first three weeks of the regular season as they continue to work their way back from minor injuries.

Bateman was the Ravens top pick in this year’s draft and is recovering from groin surgery he underwent last month to repair. Boykin suffered a hamstring injury during the first week of training camp and hasn’t practiced since. He’s resumed running on an adjacent field to where the team has been practicing but he still isn’t quite ready to rejoin his teammates just yet.

These short-term designations have become highly utilized for teams like the Ravens who were hit hard by injuries in camp and can’t afford to lose so many key players out for an extended period of time.

With the two wideouts on injured reserve, the coinciding move to follow was signing tight end Eric Tomlinson who was released on Tuesday. Many expect outside linebacker Pernell McPhee to also rejoin the Ravens, though it has not been announced.
