The Baltimore Ravens signed safety Marcus Williams to a five-year, $70 million contract on the second day of free agency. The five-year veteran has shown that he is one of the best up-and-coming players in the NFL, and he should be able to make quite the impact in a Baltimore uniform.

During his introductory press conference with the Ravens, Williams was asked about what the moments going up in practice against former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was like, as well as how many interceptions he had on him in those practices. Williams talked about how Brees’ mentality rubbed off on him throughout his time in New Orleans.

“Man, you’ll have to go watch the film to see how many I got on him. (laughter) Man, Drew [Brees] is a great guy. Going up against that type of guy in practice ultimately helped me for other people that I’m playing against. So, his mentality definitely rubbed off, and I definitely see what it takes to get to that level. And from seeing him practice with no football, to practice … That’s what I do on the field. I’m imagining what I’m going to do; that’s what he did all day. He imagined [it], and his process, he respected it, he never wavered from it, and that’s what made him great.”

Williams has been a turnover machine ever since entering the league in 2017. He’s totaled 15 interceptions in five seasons, and always seems to be around the football. He should fit in seamlessly on Baltimore’s defensive unit, and the mentality that he picked up from Brees should help tremendously along the way.
