Ravens Trade Morgan Moses to Jets

The Baltimore Ravens traded RT Morgan Moses to the New York Jets this afternoon. The Ravens also sent their fourth-round pick (134th overall) to New York. In exchange, they received the Jets’ fourth (112th overall) and sixth (218th overall) round picks.

I didn’t see this one coming. Sure, we all knew the clock was ticking with a 33-year-old Moses, but if this doesn’t signal that the Ravens are planning on HAMMERING O-line in this draft, I don’t know what will.

make me hopeful that there could be another free agent splash in the works, particularly with some of the big fish that the Chargers are getting ready to cut loose. The flip side of the coin, though, is the attrition at that RT spot. I don’t feel great about overtaxing Pat Mekari again, and Daniel Faalele didn’t show me nearly enough to inspire confidence as a full-time replacement.

Apropos of nothing, I kind of feel bad for Moses. Jets fans showed a lot of ugliness toward him during and after his stint there, and I can’t imagine he’s in any great hurry to hear from them again.

Never really felt Moses was coming back although I thought he would be cut, not traded.

They save $5.5M on the cap and move way up in the 4th round, in a draft that is deep in some of the needs on this team. I like it.

I always felt that at least two-fifths of the offensive line was going to change and possibly as much as four-fifths. Ronnie Stanley took his anticipated pay cut today, so that means he stays and we hope he can be healthy and get in better shape.

Todd Monken likes more athletic lineman for his system, so I tend to doubt the move will be to Faalele. I think Mekari and an early-round pick will be fighting for the starting RT spot. Mekari may be the guy early on but eventually the rookie takes over.

All of these are moves they needed to make and commit to. Glad to see it getting done.

Now, we wait to see what they do with the saved money. I anticipate some of their own cheaper FA being brought back but they need to figure out edge rusher, third corner and if they want to bring in a vet iOL.

After hearing that Stanley agreed to rework his contract this makes a little more sense. I think the Ravens want a veteran presence on the offensive line and also want to get younger and healthier. They probably also saw enough of Daniel Faalele to feel comfortable making this move. Moses struggled staying healthy this past season and with the cap savings it made sense.  I expect the Ravens will draft at least two offensive linemen next month.

I’m a Morgan Moses guy, and always appreciate this consistency and durability, but this year was a bit of a struggle for the big right tackle. It was apparent that health was impacting him, as he wasn’t as fluid on those pulls as he had been in the past, and seemed a bit slower adjusting horizontally in his pass sets. It became apparent by the end of the season that the team needed better going forward, and I expected him to be cut before this afternoon.

So, yay. Good trade in that the Ravens got some value and hopefully Moses can show that it was only health limiting him next year.

This trade doesn’t make a ton of sense to me. Maybe I’m missing something, but taking away from the offensive line doesn’t seem to be the greatest idea. If the Ravens are convinced Moses isn’t the answer at right tackle, I kind of get it. He’s not great. He has been solid though. I need to see the move that goes along with this. Otherwise, they just traded away a known quantity at tackle to move up in the fourth round of the draft. The offensive line was already my top concern. Maybe they think Daniel Faalele is ready to start. That actually is an interesting option. The Ravens need to address the offensive line. I wasn’t expecting this. We’ll take a wait and see approach. If the Ravens have a plan for the offensive line, getting a little more draft capital makes some sense.
