The Chicago Bears are nearing a quarterback decision, where the expectation is they’ll trade Justin Fields and start over with a rookie (likely Caleb Williams).

But the Fields trade market isn’t as robust as it was believed to be ahead of the NFL Scouting Combine. In fact, some of the top suitors — including the Atlanta Falcons, Pittsburgh Steelers and Las Vegas Raiders — have gone in a different direction signing a veteran in free agency.

ESPN insider Adam Schefter believes there might not be a starting job for Fields right now. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t still interest.

According to The Athletic’s Jeff Howe, Fields remains a trade candidate. There’s been interest, and the market continues to evolve as moves are made for veterans across free agency.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said the Bears are “open” to trading Fields but they haven’t actively been shopping him at this point. They want to be sure about Caleb Williams before making that decision, and they’re slated to host Williams for a Top 30 visit after his pro day later this month.

While general manager Ryan Poles wanted to move as swiftly as possible to “do right” by Fields, that hasn’t been the case. Chicago will have to wait for a market to develop, and there is still interest around the league.
