Report: Broncos sign veteran center Brett Jones

The Broncos add some more competition to the center position.

According to Chris Tomasson who covers the Minnesota Vikings for the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Denver Broncos have signed veteran center Brett Jones. He played a total of three seasons for the Vikings and newly hired Broncos General Manager George Paton and now will try to compete for a roster spot with the Broncos.

Jones who will turn 30 years old on Thursday has played a total of five seasons in the NFL including one season in the CFL in 2013 and 2014. He signed with the New York Giants in 2015 and started a total of 14 games in two seasons for them. He was then traded to the Minnesota Vikings and started a total of 5 games in three seasons before signing with the Denver Broncos today.

Now, he’ll join a Broncos team that has two young centers in Llyod Cushenberry who the team drafted in the third round in 2020, and Quinn Meinerz who they drafted in the third round this past year. Jones will provide some veteran depth who has starting experience under his belt as well.

I still think the center job is between Cushenberry and Meinerz, but Jones adds some depth to that positional battle.

To make room for Jones, the Broncos have reportedly parted ways with center Patrick Morris according to 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis.

Jones joins quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and running back Mike Boone as the former Vikings that General Manager George Paton has added to the roster this offseason.
