Report: Colts could play both Jacob Eason and Brett Hundley at quarterback on Sunday

Well isn’t this music to the Tennessee Titans’ ears.

Colts starting quarterback Carson Wentz continues to carry the “questionable” label due to his two sprained ankles.

Wentz’s chances of playing on Sunday seem to be trending in the wrong direction. The latest injury report reveals Wentz didn’t practice on Wednesday or Thursday, and we expect more of the same on Friday. The Colts won’t officially rule Wentz out until the very last minute, but it’s looking more and more likely that former fourth-round pick Jacob Eason will start in his place against the Titans on Sunday. After all, Eason did replace Wentz in last Sunday’s loss after he went down with his injury, and Eason received the bulk of the work as the Colts’ No. 2 signal-caller throughout training camp and the preseason.

But will it be Eason? This situation just took a peculiar turn on Thursday morning when Tom Pelissero reported that practice squad quarterback Brett Hundley received the bulk of the first-team reps at Wednesday’s practice.

Pelissero went on to state that both Eason and Hundley could play against the Titans in what would be a dual-quarterback system. Yeah, right.

This screams smokescreen, as the Colts desperately search for any advantage to be gained by the nightmare scenario they actually find themselves in.

This is a no excuse week for the Titans on defense. Whether it’s a banged up Wentz, a bad Eason, Hundley or some strange combination of the two, the Titans have to go out and dominate on the defensive side of the ball if they want people to believe they’re the improved unit they claim to be.

The Titans have an excellent opportunity to send the Colts to 0-3 this Sunday, which would all but doom their season. They better take advantage of this golden opportunity. It’s impossible to lock up a division in Week 3, but the Titans can get as close as it gets to that by winning at Nissan Stadium on Sunday.
