Report: Cowboys worked out former Texas corner Holton Hill

Could the ‘Boys add the homegrown defensive back?

The Dallas Cowboys released cornerback Rashard Robinson on July 17, just ahead of their trip to Oxnard for training camp to close the month. The 25-year-old corner, who served previous stints with the 49ers, Jets and Giants, and who was suspended four games in 2018 for violating the league’s Policy for Substance Abuse — promptly responded to the decision with a vehement message for the franchise.

Robinson was set to sit out two games to open the 2021 campaign for a similar infraction (it will be his third penalization since joining the NFL back in 2016), and while he’s likely to attract interest from competing squads, Dallas is finished — cut and dried — with the former LSU Tiger.

They’ve now got their sights set on additional aid to round out their platoon, and have already begun seeking out bodies to man the defensive brigade. One man who’s been identified as a potential target: Holton Hill, a former Texas Longhorn who most recently suited up for the Minnesota Vikings.

Hill, 24, racked up 51 tackles, two picks, six pass deflections and a forced fumble during his junior season with the Longhorns in just nine games, and inked a three-year, $1,725,000 deal with Minnesota as an UDFA in 2018.

Like Robinson, Hill has felt the sting of suspension (he was reprimanded twice for separate four-game stretches in 2019) due to “performance-enhancing” drugs, but his mostly clean bill of health, and young age makes him a sought-after commodity.

The 6’2, 196 lb DB has registered 73 combined tackles, 11 pass break-ups, an interception and a fumble recovery through 24 career games with the Vikings.
