Derek Carr and the Las Vegas Raiders are making a stop in Splitsville today.

As first reported by ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter, the 31-year-old quarterback has been informed that he will be released. The Valentine Day’s breakup becomes official at 4 p.m. ET, which will then result in his immediate free agency.

From there, Carr—who was dumped before his $40.4 million contract became guaranteed—will be free to sign with any team. And Schefter, in his initial report, added that the Carolina Panthers are expected to be amongst the interested suitors.

Carr is coming off his fourth Pro Bowl campaign, one in which he completed 60.8 percent of his throws for 3,522 yards, 24 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He leaves Las Vegas as the franchise’s all-time leading passer, having chucked for 35,222 yards and 217 touchdowns over the last nine seasons.

The Panthers, who are in the market for a quarterback once again, have been perceived as a favorite to land the former second-round pick. If Carolina does eventually bite, Carr would be the fourth attempt at a retread project in as many years for the organization.
