Shaq may be coming to the NFC East.

The Philadelphia Eagles are among “teams expected to have some level of interest” in now-free agent linebacker Shaquille Leonard, according to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Schefty also identified the Dallas Cowboys as a potential landing spot for the former Indianapolis Colts star.

Leonard was unexpectedly waived by the Colts on Tuesday and BGN wrote about the possibility of the Eagles reuniting him with Nick Sirianni. He cleared waivers and is now free to sign with any team.

Should the Eagles take a shot on Leonard? If he’s willing to buy into a rotational role, sure, why not. He’s clearly not the same player he once was:

But the Eagles’ current top backup to Zach Cunningham and Nicholas Morrow is Christian Elliss, whom they clearly don’t trust to play on defense.

Of course, Leonard’s departure from Indy seemed to be somewhat related to him being unsatisfied with limited playing time. So the Eagles might not be the right fit for what he’s looking for. I don’t think the Birds are looking to suddenly bench Cunningham nor Morrow, who have played reasonably well relative to very low expectations.

If Leonard wants to chase a ring, the Eagles would be a smart landing spot for him. Certainly smarter than the team down in Dallas. And he seems to recognize that …
