Philly is pursuing the free agent linebacker.

The Philadelphia Eagles have “increasing interest in pursuing” free agent linebacker Shaq Leonard following Zach Cunningham’s hamstring injury, according to Josina Anderson.

The Eagles’ interest in Leonard was first reported last week after he cleared waivers. The Dallas Cowboys were also said to be interested in him and Leonard is reportedly set to visit them on Tuesday.

That visit was reported before Cunningham got hurt during the Eagles’ Week 12 win over the Buffalo Bills. We’ll see if the Eagles get more aggressive about keeping him away from Dallas.

We previously wrote that it made sense for the Eagles to pursue Leonard but it was unclear if Philly was the best fit for a player disappointed with his lack of playing time on the Indianapolis Colts’ roster. With Cunningham potentially missing time, there’s now a path for Leonard to contribute next to Nicholas Morrow.

If the Eagles don’t sign Leonard, they’ll be down to just Morrow and Christian Elliss as their only healthy off-ball linebackers. Far from ideal.

Get it done, Howie.
