Could the Carolina Panthers and owner David Tepper go outside of the box to find their next head coach? Well, if they do, they won’t have to go out too far.

According to Joe Person of The Athletic, franchise great Greg Olsen may be interested in the team’s head-coaching job. Person writes:

Ex-Carolina tight end Greg Olsen, the color analyst on Fox’s No. 1 NFL crew, would be interested in the Panthers’ vacancy if he were approached, according to sources close to Olsen who were granted anonymity so they could speak freely.

The spot was made vacant earlier today, when the organization announced the firing of Frank Reich. Reich, who led the Panthers to a 1-10 record in his 11 games at the position, will be replaced on an interim basis by special teams coordinator Chris Tabor.

If Reich is eventually replaced in the long haul by Olsen, it’ll be quite a reach for Carolina. Olsen, who transitioned straight into a highly-acclaimed broadcasting career after retiring from the game in 2021, has no NFL coaching experience.

The 38-year-old played 14 seasons in the league, with nine coming for the Panthers. He currently sits third on the franchise’s all-time receiving list.
