Brian Burns may not have been the only linebacker who the Carolina Panthers tried to lock up last offseason.

According to ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler, the team also got into contract talks with Frankie Luvu—who entered the 2023 campaign on the final year of his pact. Luvu and the Panthers, obviously, did not come to an agreement—but Fowler writes that they’ll probably take another crack at it again this spring:

The Carolina Panthers are expected to try to re-sign do-it-all linebacker Frankie Luvu. Both sides discussed a potential deal last summer and didn’t agree, but those talks could heat up around the combine.

Luvu manned the middle of the NFL’s fourth-stingiest defense for all 17 games this past season. He recorded career-highs in tackles (125), forced fumbles (two) and passes defensed (five) while providing some juice as a pass rusher with 5.5 sacks and 11 quarterback hits.

Per Spotrac, the 27-year-old backer’s projected market value sits at an average annual salary of $11.2 million.
