For much of the offseason many fans of the Seattle Seahawks have argued that the team needed to add a third wide receiver and bring in a proven starter at outside cornerback. Monday afternoon reports emerged that the Seahawks were moving to add another name to the competition at wide receiver, but then came word that instead of adding a cornerback, they were releasing one.

So, with the roster having filled up to 90 on Friday with the signing of Cameron Scarlett, the team needed to release a player in order to officially add Roberson. According to Brady Henderson of ESPN, the player to be released is cornerback Saivion Smith, an undrafted free agent out of Alabama in 2019 who had now spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Houston Roughnecks of the XFL and the Dallas Cowboys prior to signing with Seattle.

This reduces the number of names in the competition at outside cornerback from ten to nine, with Ahkello Witherspoon, D.J. Reed, Tre Flowers, Damarious Randall and Tre Brown the most recognizable of the group.
