No imminent signing.

Shaquille Leonard visited the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday after the Dallas Cowboys let him leave their building on Tuesday. The free agent linebacker is not yet ready to sign with a new team, however.

Leonard “is expected to think on it and make a decision over the weekend,” according to a report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

This news means the Eagles will not be able to have Leonard available for them when they play the San Francisco 49ers this weekend. That’s too bad because they could afford to have him since Zach Cunningham is expected to be out, leaving the Eagles with currently just Nicholas Morrow and Christian Elliss at off-ball linebacker.

The Birds will likely add undrafted rookie free agent Ben VanSumeren, who is on the practice squad, to the roster after freeing up a space by waiving Josiah Scott on Tuesday. BVS will probably only play on special teams unless further injuries force him into seeing defensive snaps.

It’ll be interesting to see which team Leonard chooses, especially ahead of next week’s game between the Eagles and Cowboys. Perhaps he’s waiting to see how this week’s results go before making a decision? If that’s the case, all the more reason to root for a Dallas loss to the Seattle Seahawks (unfortunately seems unlikely) and for the Eagles to beat the 49ers.
