Sherman had talks with the Seahawks, too

Richard Sherman has played on the west coast every year of his football career. From the Seattle Seahawks to the San Francisco 49ers. That changes now as Sherman signed a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, per the man himself:

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Sherman had talks with both of the 49ers and the Seahawks but chose the Bucs thanks to a recruiting pitch from Tom Brady and Tampa Bay’s staff.

A pitch from Brady seems simple: Do you want to play with me, the person who has won more Super Bowls than anyone else, or anyone else?

At this, betting against Brady seems foolish. We’ll see what Sherman has left, as he reportedly is down to 195 pounds.

As for the 49ers, this could have been a money issue as San Francisco doesn’t have many funds to offer. It could have been a fit issue as well. When I say that, I don’t mean scheme. I mean Sherman having to potentially compete against the likes of the other veteran cornerbacks’ Josh Norman or Dre Kirkpatrick.

The 49ers signed Buster Skrine on Tuesday, who will take over for K’Waun Williams in the slot. It’s still to be determined whether Norman will be available. If not, expect Kirkpatrick and Dontae Johnson to compete on the outside.
