The offense of the New York Jets has spiraled downward and the team’s hopes of making the playoffs are dwindling. Despite Zach Wilson’s woes under center, Robert Saleh revealed that the Jets won’t be benching Wilson and Trevor Siemian won’t be elevated to the active roster.

On Monday night, the Jets produced only six points in their 27-6 defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers. The Jets have combined for 19 points in the last two weeks, and Wilson has committed four turnovers in that span.

Earlier this season, the Jets added Siemian to their practice squad to seemingly give them an experienced quarterback in case Wilson struggles. Wilson has completed 59.4 percent of his passes for only 1,460 yards, four touchdowns, four interceptions, and he’s lost five fumbles in his seven starts in relief of Aaron Rodgers.

While Rodgers has expressed his desire to return this season, the Jets need to be in contention for the playoffs for that to even be a possibility. Allowing Wilson to continue starting at quarterback could jeopardize the chances of New York winning enough games to justify Rodgers returning, but don’t expect Siemian to get a chance.

At the moment, Tim Boyle is the immediate backup to Wilson. It remains to be seen if Wilson will remain the starter if the Jets fail to beat the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday Night Football in Week 10.
