Taysom Hill is expected to play, but it will be Trevor Siemian starting under center.

The New Orleans Saints are coming out of one doozy of a week. Looking ahead to this weekend’s match up against the division rival Atlanta Falcons, Trevor Siemian will start at quarterback in place of Jameis Winston. But the team won’t be without Taysom Hill, who will certainly mix in all over the offense, including under center.

Taysom Hill, who has been out of practice for the last three weeks after a brutal hit left him navigating concussion protocol, will be active on Sunday against the Falcons. Even though Trevor Siemian has been named the Saints’ starting quarterback, it’s reasonable to expect quite a bit of Taysom Hill getting mixed in at signal caller throughout.

Taysom isn’t the only Saint making his return to the field, core special teamer Dwayne Washington looks like he’ll make his way back as well.

Potentially so too can rookie defensive end Payton Turner. For the first time this season, the Saints could have all three of their top edge rushers in Cam Jordan, Marcus Davenport, and the young Payton Turner who has shows some promising flashes when healthy this season. All in good time as pass rusher Carl Granderson will be out for this match up along with WR Ty Montgomery and, as expected, QB Jameis Winston who will miss the rest of the season with an ACL injury and MCL damage.

One storyline to watch heading into this one is Malcolm Jenkins’ 126-straight game streak slightly at risk. Jenkins missed practice early this week, but then returned on a limited basis through Thursday and Friday. He’s currently questionable for Sunday along with Turner.

Wide receiver will be a curious position to watch without Montgomery. The team has already elevated WR Kevin White twice over the last two weeks. Now they would have to add him to the active roster in order for him to be active for Sunday. But wideouts Kawaan Baker and Easop Winston could find their way elevated instead.

No shockers for the Falcons who will be without star wideout Calvin Ridley as he has taken an indefinite leave for personal reasons. He’ll be out at least three weeks now that he’s been moved to the reserve list. Newly signed Marvin Hall has been added to the practice squad, but it doesn’t seem that he’ll find his way to the field as quickly as this weekend. But it all remains to be seen.

The Saints have been through a ton this season, this week was no different. But now, with a win against Atlanta, the they could tie atop the division with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 6-2. Thus claiming the top spot of the NFC South being that they hold the tie-breaker after last week’s wild win.
